The state of colorado is under a seige of flame. There are two major forest fires currently burning. The "Coal Seam Fire,"started by a smoldering underground coal seam (a very interesting geologic phenomena), and the Hayman Fire - started by an illegal campfire.
The governor has annouced a complete ban on open flame fires - campfires, fireworks, etc.
I live in a city just outside Denver and on Sunday you could literally see ash/particles in the sky, the very air had the aroma of a campfire. The sun glowed orange an gave us sight not unlike that of a minor volcanic eruption - I can appreciate how artists have used this phenomena as inspiration.
Flame jumps from tree to tree sometimes a hundred feet in the air. On occasion, the smoke is so bad slurry bombers can not see where to drop their load.
Anyway, more to come... neither is anywhere near being under control - they (the media) do not even announce a "percent contained" anymore.
Keep your fingers crossed and hold on tight, mother nature is showing us who's the boss.
