By the way, the irony of self-proclaimed anti-Big Government types pushing what amounts in essence to the Alien and Sedition Acts redux, almost precisely 200 years later, is not lost on this dedicated follower of John Adams.
Adams considered the signing of those Acts, to which he was persuaded by his own fledgling Federalist party, as the biggest mistake of his career.
Do I personally belive Bush's proposal to be the moment of conception of Big Brother? Not yet - but the operating phrase remains:
