This story wasn't given big airplay in the states - but in the conservative capital it was front section news.

On Sunday the Socialists lost the national assembly in France.

Conservative parties won between 385-399 of the 577 seats!

The left including the Greens (boo!) the Socialists (hiss!) and the communist party (thrown tomato!) only won 178-192 seats!

The swing to the right is now present in the Netherlands, Denmark, Italy, Portugal - and now France.

Can Belgium and Germany be far behind?
