<I again point out that 50+ years after WWII, we still have troops in Germany and Japan, and our relations are fine.
What did we do differently there than what the Israelis did in their own backyard?
The Germans and the Japanese do not currently have over fifty percent of their population which believes that the United States ought to be utterly destroyed. Over fifty percent of the Palestinians believe that Israel should be eliminated from the Middle East. The Germans and Japanese are not blowing up Americans in their back yards and ice cream parlors. The Palestinians are killing innocent people with shrapnel bombs for the crime of building houses in lands where the Palestinians think no Jew ought to be allowed to exist. You tell me what's going on.
And it is proper to look to the Israelis: They have the power in this. They have the guns and tanks. What leads a society to create a deathcult and to use it as a weapon?
Many Palestinians and a great portion of the rest of the Arab world wants the Jews dead.
Not to give up some land, not to grant the Palestinians rights, not to abide by UN agreements, not to pull back to certain borders, or any of the other many red herrings the Palestinian leaders throw out for the consumption of world liberals with bleeding hearts and atrophied brains.
Dead.
They wanted the Jews dead long before 1948. Land and occupation happen to be a convenient excuse.
For some interesting information, check out the history of Arafat's uncle, Haj Amin al Husseini, and what Arabs did during WWII.
FYI, "Mein Kampf" is currently a best seller in many Arab areas.
There is a lot more to this than just the "occupied" West Bank, or the existence of Israel in the Middle East. Israel is fighting against those who demand the extinction of their culture.

It isn't about the occupation, and never was.
