I have yet to see the failure of a government program become a sufficient reason for ending it. Results, or the lack thereof, are not the issue. The environmental movement would probably rather see the entire West burn than let the loggers into the forests.
It is interesting that searches at the FOE and Greenpeace have no references at all to the fires. The Sierra Club has a page on them, but largely blames lack of controlled burning and poor logging practices.
