Re: An example of where capitalism may not be the best way.

Don't worry about "picking" on me. I don't take any of this personally, enjoy the discourse. I've had to rethink several things, and have learned some others as the result of these boards.

And, on this you are more right than you may know. I was walking around a village square a few years ago in Mexico. A man came up to me, dressed in clean jeans, clean cowboy shirt, good boots. He was well groomed, though clearly a "local".

He started speaking English to me. (I've found in Central and South America many people want to practice.)

He had dual citizenship, American and Mexican, had been born in the US to Mexican parents. He worked in restaurants in the US until his later 20's, saved his money, and bought a farm in Mexico.

Our discussion was as long as I could manage, and fascinating. He volunteered that Mexico would always be poor as long as the police were corrupt. Not just the politicians, but the cop on the beat.

As long as that cop can confiscate wealth, can keep some people poor, can incarcerate others who irritate him/her, there is no chance.

For an economy to work, it needs to be fair and every one needs to trust it. The IMClone insider trading strikes at the fairness, the Worldcom mess tears at the trust.
