President Bush is concerned about reports from Afghanistan that civilians were killed during joint U.S.-Afghan military operations, the White House Press Secretary said in a statement released late July 2.

"We do not yet know what exactly happened and we are working very hard to find out," the statement said.

Afghan officials say some 40 Afghan civilians were killed and many others injured in an air attack on an area north of Kandahar.
