Current Events » in reply to Colorado forest fires have a long reach...all the way to Toronto.

It was a lot worse a few weeks ago

There are several fires still burning in Colorado but they're pretty well contained now. They're still burning and may continue to burn for months but they aren't growing anymore. For quite some time, the wood smoke was very strong smelling but that's mostly over now. We had a strong thunderstorm last night that might've helped, but now the concern is erosion and flash flooding. The fire was so intense that it cooked the ground, making erosion, mudslides, and flash flooding a distinct possibility. They're already working to reduce those threats.

We still get a lot of haze but some of that could be from those monster fires in Arizona. That one burned almost three times as many acres as our Hayman fire. The scary thing to realize is that the fire season has barely begun.
