Canadian sniper teams are active in Afghanistan. According to this report, one of them is credited with a center-mass chest kill shot from 2400 meters (almost 1.5 miles!), reportedly a new world record for snipers. The weapon used for that shot was a .50 BMG McMillan Long Range Sniper Weapon (LRSW), perhaps one like this.
