For one thing, stock prices are perched at the top of a sandpile. When anything underpinning them give a little, the peak drops quite a bit.
A world-wide Muslim consumer boycott wouldn't seem to be all that big an economic deal in reality, in dollars and numbers, could be hard on the stock market out of proportion to that.
And, it could be a PR disaster. Something like that could work to publicize and polarize much of the world. Giving them a sense of participation would not be good.
Seems fair, though. Every time a newspaper or network broadcasts something sympathetic to Palestinians, some combination of Jewish and Israeli interests threaten to boycott. Have done that for years, and the result has colored US public opinion drastically.
And, it might be like the attempted, abortive boycott China moves sponsored by fundamental religious organizations in the US a few years ago. The Chinese stuff was so prevalent and cheap they got nowhere.
