BAGRAM, Afghanistan
U.S. special forces found a weapons cache in eastern Afghanistan and seized anti-tank missiles, rocket-propelled grenades and thousands of rounds of small arms ammunition, a spokesman said Tuesday.

The cache was found Monday in the village of Lwara in Paktika province, Maj. Gary Tallman said. It contained 10 rocket propelled grenades, 20 anti-tank missiles and 2,000 rounds of small arms ammunition, he said. The weapons would probably be destroyed.

U.S. forces have discovered several weapons caches around Lwara in recent months.

The village was the scene of an incident last month in which four rockets were fired at U.S. forces but causing no casualties. The Americans returned fire and called in airstrikes by A-10 jets and other aircraft, but it was not known if any of the attackers were hit.

Separately, British Royal Marines conducting vehicle checks near the town of Khost, also in the border region, found 31 82mm mortar rounds.
