Neither side is required to present the whole picture. Each side is required to tell the truth about the evidence they choose to present and not to fabricate evidence. Suppression of evidence is a big part of the game. The judges and juries are supposed to parse the truth from what is presented. That's American justice, and to some extent Western justice as a whole.

Think about the role of suppression of evidence in the court of world opinion. Think about selective presentation. Think about who, if anyone, enforces the rules about truthful presentation and fabrication of evidence.
