Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh was imprisoned once before, released after an airplane hijacking. He wrote a fascinating diary which described on a day-by-day basis how he kidnapped the people for which he had the previous conviction. Reading it generated the same feeling as watching a cobra come out of the basket.
Hanging, actually, would be almost too kind.
