That's why it's so important to build the Afghan army
A well trained, well equiped, staunchly pro-Western, 80,000 strong Afghan Army that can competently take over the job when we eventually pack up and leave. Powerful enough to hunt down and destroy any remaining pro-Taliban elements and to keep those numerous stupid little local warlords in line. Just like the Phillipines, where this strategy is working quite nicely.
And of course if the Afghan Army accidently wiped out 45 civilians at a wedding party, nobody would really give a damn. Regrettable, but unavoidable, collateral damage in the necessary war on terrorism.
