Talked to Joe here at WorldCom.
Seems there was a crack-down on unauthorized space heaters and cup warmers as potential fire hazards. Joe was told that he and his crew were to make a note of persons violating the policy of "no heating implements allowed", but he refused. Security was not in his job description.
He said he and his people would turn off neglected heaters as a safety precaution, but that they would not alienate themselves from the other workers by turning them in for reprimand or replacement. He also noted that housekeeping was a full-time job, one that did not allow the opportunity to take on new tasks, such as the training and paperwork required to turn in those thought to be in violation of various company policies.
Facilities then said that Joe and his team could simply confiscate unauthorized equipment.
That one fell flat as well, running into receipts for personal property, damage to personal property, as well as the idea of his limited staff lugging heaters around the building instead of cleaning.
As with Joe's situation, if the nation requires additional security, it needs to hire a security force.
Dan (still got my cup warmer)
