MANILA, Philippines
The United States has offered technical and financial aid to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations to help the 10-country group fight terrorism in the region, a Philippine official said Wednesday.

The U.S. assistance could include logistics, training and money to be provided under a memorandum of understanding that could be signed between Washington and ASEAN foreign ministers, who are holding their annual meeting in Brunei next week, Foreign Undersecretary Lauro Baja said.

Malaysian Foreign Minister Syed Hamid Albar said Tuesday the anti-terrorism agreement would provide for ``greater cooperation in intelligence exchange and other joint action to deal with international terrorism.'' He did not elaborate.
