It certainly isn't - but it's in the US national interest to be friendly with some Muslims
At least for a while, we'll continue to use the common interest we share with the "moderate" Muslims to fight the really crazy ones...
US ships Al Qaeda suspects to Arab states
The US captures Al Queda terrorists. We can’t get them to talk. So we ship them to Arab states like Egypt, Syria, and Jordan. They use, shall we say, “persuasive” means of extracting information from the terrorists. Plots are uncovered. Lives are saved.
But I'm not sure how comfortable we should feel about maintaining such a brutally pragmatic arrangement over the long term...
