July 30 2002 -
Despite the onslaught of two months recent negative reporting on President Bush, the majority of American citizens view his presidency and performance overwhelmingly positive.

From traditionally liberal towns like New York to the staunchly conservative southwest, Bush still stands tall in the eyes of most Americans. The recent dip and then rebound in the stock market seems unlikely to carry any political weight and a sizable percentage of those polled believed the corporate abuses started during the Clinton administration and were being dealt with promptly and sufficiently by the Bush administration.

Although not that all results are good news for the Bush administration, his poll numbers show uncanny core strength unseen since the days of Ronald Reagan.

Many in the media who are critical of the President, have dubbed him Teflon II and are frustrated that nothing negative seems to stick to him. Perhaps it is due to popular views similar to the view of one democratic registered female from Portland, Oregon:

"He seems real to me. He's an ordinary guy in an extraordinary job. When he talks, he talks to me an ordinary American. I didn't think he would do such a good job as President, but I would vote for him next time."

Opinions such as this are surely a source of consternation among the top democrats who are jockeying for position to run against Bush in 2004.

There is even a chance that the mudslinging at Bush this early on will backfire and destroy democrats chances at unseating the popular President. Said on DNC operative, "Patriotism is on the back burner but it could real quickly be stoked and turned into a red-hot issue in the fall of 2003. Democrats will have to be very crafty to avoid being scalded. It doesn't look good for Democrats now, but things might change."

But change is the one thing democrats may be denied, as polling numbers remain consistent through even two months string of bad news.
