The Philippines is preparing for the arrival of US Secretary of State Colin Powell on Saturday, the government said yesterday.
Secretary Powell will meet with President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to discuss the resumption of the RP-US joint military training exercises in October and the proposed Mutual Logistics and Support Agreement (MLSA) between the two countries.
The US Secret Service and the US Embassy have been coordinating with the government security preparations.
Director General Hermogenes Ebdane, chief of the Philippine National Police, appealed to protesters to exercise restraint while holding their street demonstrations during Powell's visit.
"Each Filipino has his own right but it does not give them the right to trample on the rights of others so let others go in peace and do their things in authorized areas," he said.
