This article is worth reading, and makes a very good point: we may find out that, like many laws passed under panic conditions, that the fix--the recently passed laws against corporate fraud--may be worse than the problem was.
It is somewhat frightening that control of our economy is basically in the hands of lawyers in Washington whose knowledge of economic principles is probably, on the average, at the fifth-grade level. Still remember Robert Reich proposing indexing the minimum wage to inflation. Brrrrrrr.....
