U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell has arrived back in the United States at the end of an eight-day trip through Asia.
The focus of the trip has been to encourage Asian nations to remain vigilant against the threat of terrorism, particularly from Islamic militants.
Mr. Powell's last stop was the Philippines where a thousand U.S. troops have been acting as advisers against Abu Sayyaf rebels.
There he announced a further $US100 million to help the Philippines combat terrorism.
"The amount of support that the United States is providing to the Philippines, both in terms of military support and in terms of development assistance, is being significantly increased and we hope that will remain the case for several years to come," Mr. Powell said.
