My wife's old boss in London - a great example of absent-minded professor - is doing research on the effects of alcohol on eye focus and strength.
Since UK laws prohibit human testing, he and his researchers have turned to the only available resource - they drink whisky themselves (under appropriate scientific lab protocols of course).
He appoached a major whisky manufacturer for funding but no luck yet.........
