Reluctance to pursue unsubstantiated rumors
It’s true that there have long been rumors of a Middle-eastern, and specifically Iraqi connection to the Oklahoma City bombing. Were McVeigh and Nichols used as pawns by Saddam Hussein’s clever agents? Remember the Middle-eastern appearance of the mysterious “John Doe #2”? No solid evidence has ever turned up, though, to make any connection at all. And if there were any real evidence, I’ve no doubt whatsoever that the American political right would jump all over it as further indictment of the Clinton administration’s negligence (our collective negligence, actually) in the face of the growing menace of extremist Islamic terrorism.
