The bigger, more relevant, issue is one of international terrorism

A Zimbabwe left to Mugabe's extreme anti-Western policies, which descends into mass starvation, violent chaos and anarchy, would be very fertile soil for Islamic fundamentalists. All Al Queda would have to do is sneak in with some of their Saudi oil wealth, promise to improve the lives of starving villagers, and they'd be recruiting by the thousands into their fanatical ranks. Or else Mugabe himself might invite international terrorists in - I wouldn't put it past him.

The lesson we learned in Afghanistan is that the problems of a 3rd world hell hole don't stay confined to that hole - they spread out and attack the whole civilized world, especially with a widespread, active Islamic terrorist network ready to take advantage of every opportunity, on every continent. The UK and the US, and in fact the rest of the international community, would be making a big mistake by neglecting Zimbabwe and letting it descend further and further down into this hell. It'll come back to haunt us.
