They are shovelling it fast. Who are they? Look at this article. Read it.
Michael O’Hanlon
Who is Michael?
"defense budget and technology specialist at the Brookings Institution and author of “Defense Policy Choices for the Bush Administration, 2001-2005.”
Let's look closer...here.
Does this make him a "specialist" on Iraqi nuclear technology or simply a French speaking Princeton grad who likes to debate about defense spending and foreign policy? I seriously doubt he could even tell you how a nuclear bomb works or the ingredients required to make one. If he cannot - he is not an expert on nuclear development whatsoever. Even if he could - he is not in Iraq doing intelligence work or in a position to assess Saddam's A-bomb program's progress.
If we peruse the Brookings site further we see a book co-authored by O' Hanlon. Look who gives him a favorable critique:
"Missile defense has for several years now been one of the most important—and emotional—national security issues before the American people. Lindsay and O'Hanlon have taken this subject, daunting in its complexity, made it very understandable, and offered a reasonable approach to system deployment. Both for those holding firmly to a particular position on the subject, and those who may still be uninitiated, this book is certain to be enlightening and instructive."
—General Brent Scowcroft, Former U.S. National Security Adviser
Scowcroft....hmmm...he is one of the ones urging caution about entering Iraq too....almost on the same day Schwartzkopf made a rare TV appearance.
If one unravels these articles one will find that there are definite "cliques" in DC who work together for common cause - they even have certain journalists and news agencies in their "pocket" so-to-speak and can put forth a story on an hours notice if the need arises.
The "let's hold back" folks clearly are working together on this one. A conspiracy? No. Simply a concerted group effort to preserve certain interests.
It's fun to write your own news pieces and see them printed up or put online...but these days 90% of them are milestones in the part of a bigger agenda...a bigger game.
The conservatives are clearly split on this one...however it is not ideology that puts them in different camps - it is holdings and board positions.
Fascinating to watch,
