<As I heard the crib rail go up I heard a particularly deafening jet pass overhead - one of the old unhushed cargo planes that makes the china rattle at Jasperwood - and I remembered something from last night.

Sitting here alongside I-270, it’s pretty common to have a small plane (generally single-engine) cruising southbound along a couple thousand feet up fly over the building. We’re on the west side of the freeway, so the southbound pilots keep the freeway as an insight marker to their left, which brings them to pass over the building.

The other day, during one of my sporadic waiting periods for Jacob’s arrival, I was sitting downstairs (I was upstairs when he finally showed up) at the main doors when I heard a jet go over. It sounded extremely close, and my breath caught -- wondering. Then I saw it, a small, low flying, private-job -- but northbound.

I guess that sense of foreboding will stay with me for a while (compounded by the fact I live near the approach to Columbus International).

At the moment, I think the al-Quai’da still uses encrypted porn to send their messages, so I guess I’m pretty safe at work. If they stop using the internet, though -- well...

I feel the same anger I did on 9/11;
I feel the same overwhelming grief.
Nothing in my heart has changed, and God forbid it ever does.
