Oh, yeah, the Democrats were the heroes that captured the evil Enron. I must have missed the part where suddenly the Senate became responsible for policing corporations in this country. One wonders where the Justice Department and SEC were for the previous eight years of Enron's fun and games.
The Democrats investigated Enron for just one single reason: to try to wreck Bush. They don't give a rat's ass about the corruption (which they were feeding on as well) or the ruined stockholders.
I would drop the Enron bit...the Democrats sure did when they found out that anchor rope they were trying to tie around Bush's neck was twisted around their own legs, and that their smear wasn't working like they'd hoped.
And as for the dreaded dictatorship you fear so much, as far as I know exactly two American citizens are being held in this way: Yaser Hamdi who was captured in Afghanistan and happened to be born in Louisiana, and Jose Padilla, who was suspected of planning a radioactive bomb attack. Two.
Okay, let's give them the full ACLU treatment, and while we're at it, let's let the rest fly the coop too. Then what?
Remember what I said here.
You can complain about the clampdown and increased powers of the state to investigate and detain, or you can complain about the stupid and ineffective government and intelligence community failing to protect us and being blindsided, but you can't do both at the same time.
