Rationale for War On Iraq Is Absent, Great Risk Is Present

War is too important a matter to accept passively the claims of the Bush administration.

Twelve reasons not to attack Iraq:

1. Historically, the United States has entered a major war only if its national interests were at stake or we have been attacked. Our major national interests in the Middle East are oil and the resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian crisis. Neither provides a rationale for invading Iraq. There is no credible evidence that Iraq was involved in Sept. 11 or that it has the intention or wherewithal to attack this country.

2. If the country that offers itself as a model for the world attacks preemptively, then such a precedent could lead others, which do have nuclear weapons, eventually to attack us. We cannot ignore that this country takes actions which displease others.

3. An attack by the strongest ally of Israel on a Muslim country inevitably would weaken the stability of friendly countries in the Middle East, and provide terrorists with another reason to attack the United States.

4. Unstable conditions in the Middle East could threaten our oil supply.

Well, a couple of them work.
