The news regarding the Middle East has been censored in the US ever since the creation of Israel. These people have grown up with only one view of that situation.
Our "free press" is privately owned, and a profit-making business. That's not bad, except insofar as it limits the "freedom" of that press. In a democracy that's fatal in the long run. We need information.
Any story critical of Israel or sympathetic to Arabs, even Arabs who are citizens of Israel, is greeted with cries of "anti-Semitism". Boycotts are threatened, and a retraction is always printed. It just isn't worth it for these folks to print a story and go through the fuss.
So, the news is limited. And it's gone on so long your basic Merkan doesn't know it's happened.
This Harvard President, who said he wasn't speaking as Harvard President even though he was at a function where the President of Harvard was speaking, is just one of the long line of people who think that criticizing Israel's foreign policy is somehow anti-Semitic. Now that is the real prejudice!
The US has a very one-sided view of that mess. That's why Sharon has been able to hijack American foreign policy so easily. That tail wags the dog.
