Besides being a money pit and a forum to bash the US, the UN provides employment for thousands of otherwise marginal bureaucrats who would otherwise be unemployable. They remind me of the old "Li'l Abner" comic strip character named Senator Phogbound. The people kept electing him to get him out of town.
