You hit that one on the head
<Would have seen SS money in Enron, WorldCom, Halliburton, etc.
Dang right we would have, along with many other "favored" companies, i.e. mostly companies that greased their palms before the last election.
And this would have been just as true under a Democratic or a Republican administration.
Giving the government the ability to invest Social Security funds in the private sector would be a long step toward eventual socialism/corporate fascism and away from the ideal of separation of government and the private economy.
Let me decide what to do with my own retirement money.
