Another Indonesian national, jailed in Manila, named Hambali and Bafana as the men who ordered him to buy explosives in the Philippines for the group to use in bombing the U.S. and Israeli embassies in Singapore, the justice department document said. The jailed Indonesian, Fathur Roham Al-Ghozi, was arrested by police in January and the alleged plot was never carried out.

MANILA -- Reuters
Two members of an Islamic group with alleged ties to al Qaeda were involved in buying explosives in the Philippines for use in a foiled plot to bomb Western targets in Singapore, Philippine prosecutors said on Monday.

The Department of Justice identified one of them as Hambali, also known as Riduan Isamudin, an Indonesian cleric and a suspected leader of Jemaah Islamiah, or "Islamic Community," which Washington and other governments in the region have linked to various terror plots in Southeast Asia.

The other man named in a justice department document was Faiz Bin Abu Bakar Bafana, a Malaysian and alleged Jemaah member.

The document was released two days after a bomb attack on the Indonesian island of Bali that killed at least 181 people and injured several hundred. Authorities have not blamed anyone for the attack but diplomats were watching for any moves against Jemaah.
