Mr. Muhammad, who gave his age as about 35, said that after he surrendered, soldiers loyal to the Afghan warlord Abdul Rashid Dostum falsely told US soldiers that he and nine others were senior Taliban officials.

KABUL, Afghanistan -- NYT
Three of the first four prisoners to be freed from United States military detention at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba have complained that inmates are locked for days at a time in sweltering small cells and are denied contact with their families.

They also said that dozens of low-level Taliban foot soldiers and Afghans were imprisoned on the island.

Three Afghans were turned over to Afghan officials on Monday, and a fourth detainee, a Pakistani, was handed to officials in Islamabad on Sunday.

The three Afghans said on Monday that they were not tortured or abused but said the prospect of being trapped in endless isolation, sometimes in a six-square-metre cell, wore away at them.
