Israel government going into the crapper

And apparently over the Jewish settlement issue.

End result looks to be a new government that may be more hard line on keeping settlements and building new ones. This is not good. You can argue all day long about the Palestinian and Israeli views on settlements, but boiling it down to sheer practicality, building new settlements is about as useful and safe as chain smoking near a gas leak.

All other policies aside, it seems to me that dismantling the settlements, pulling back to a border of Israel's selection, building one big mother of a security wall, and putting Israelis on one side and Palestinians on the other would be the best plan for quieting violence. This is going to be tough on the settlers, and really tough on Palestinians working in Israel, but there it is. It ain't the same as a peace settlement, because both Israelis and Palestinians will be bitterly unhappy about it, but if you can't make the kiddies get along, you have to separate them.

This is not impossible. Israel dismantled the Sinai settlements quickly enough once they decided it needed doing.

Both sides need to figure out a way to muzzle their extremists, or nothing will ever get done.
