Islam has always brought grief to Turkey. Turkey's founder, Attaturk made Turkey a secular republic out of the ruins of the Ottoman Empire (a failed Islamic theocracy). There's been a roughly 20 year cycle where Islamic fundamentalists try to restore Turkey as a theocracy under Islamic law, etc. The Turkish military sees itself as the defender of Attaturk's secular republic. Whenever the Islamicisits get the upper hand, the military gives them one warning and then stages a military coup. The Islamic politicians are then rounded up and hanged. After killing all of the culpable politicians, the military withdraws and allows democracy to be restored. This is just another repetition of that cycle. The people of Turkey have chosen Islamic politicians because the Turkish economy is on its knees. It's an act of pure desperation.
