I only followed a couple of these outside California.
Measure 23: Socialized medicine in Oregon NO! (79-21 percent)
Prop D: Socialized electric power production in San Francisco(!) No
Election Day registration in California No (59-41 percent)
There are many others, too. I'm not going to detail them all.
The feeling I get from things like this is that there are a heck of a lot fewer hard Leftists running around out there than the pundits would have you think. I would have bet hard cash that Prop D was going to pass in SF. Heck, the Politically Correct Coffee Law didn't even pass in Berkeley. I wasn't too surprised Oregon's Measure 23 went down--it was frankly insane--but the huge margin was gratifying. A measure requiring labeling of genetically engineered foods (Measure 27) also went down to defeat in Oregon (72-28 percent), which did surprise me.
There are a lot of others, too. Browse around here and in your local newspaper web sites for more. American heads are on a lot straighter than I'd hoped.
Some other election issues under the radar
