One Alabama R to the Dems

At the end of the election night the media reported that Seigelman was ahead by 4000 and he declared victory. He stated that he knew that the election was close and he hoped that Riley would concede gracefully and not try to put the people through a recount.

When the clerical error was discovered and the certified total showed Riley ahead by 3000, his atitude changed.

The problem is this, by AL law the recount is not triggered automatically but if it is ordered by the legislature or the court it is conducted by the various county election commissions, which happen to be dominated by democrats. There is no doubt by either side that, left to their own devices, the dems will "find" the 1500 or so vote needed to change the elections.

For my part I have no problem with a statewide recount as long as both parties are represented to prevent cheating by either side. The only hand recount proposed is for Baldwin county, the place of the clerical error. That will take about a week but the rest of the state can be recounted in 24-48 hours. There are no chads in Alabama and is little chance of any change and Seigleman knows this. That is why he is beginning to shreik about the dreaded undervote.

The reason for the undervote is obvious. Neither of the candidates are worth killing.

Riley was a do nothing congressman and tax dodging millionaire chicken farmer who would have had zero chance against any competent incumbent.

Seigleman (I voted for him 4 years ago against a Republican) is a Clinton clone that is currently under investigation by an ethics commission. There is a slightly better than even chance that he will be convicted of a felony in the next 12 months.

Move along folks, there is nothing to see here.
