Homeland Security Bill: 35 pages is now 484!

The Security Bill bloats beyond recognition.

Few are the pieces of legislation that don't suffer this fate to some degree moving through congress, and I realize the Post's agenda to cut Bush off at the knees, but 35 pages to 484 rings a big alarm bell in my head. There's a LOT of crap in here that shouldn't be, and if some issues need addressing--and anyone who knows anything about the vaccine industry knows that liability issues do need addressing and did before 9-11--it should be done separately.

It pisses me off to see legislation that is intended to do something important and useful clotted up with enough addons--by both parties--to louse the whole thing up. Reminds me of NAFTA, which had the noble intent of reducing trade barriers, but brought along a lot of problem-causing baggage with it.

This is like the whole pantload we went through with Federalizing the airport screeners when all they had to do was give the pilots guns. What's wrong with keeping things simple?
