US Democratic lawmakers agree that the US possesses intelligence contradicting Iraq’s assertion that it has no WMD.

When is the right time to go public with compelling evidence of Iraq’s WMD?

Actually, the fact that Saddam does have WMD isn’t the issue. Every country on the face of the earth with an active intelligence program is aware of this undeniable fact.

The question is, should the Bush administration release this sensitive intelligence now, or after the necessary overthrow of Saddam Hussein?

It’s not as easy a decision as some might think. Intelligence sources would be compromised; friendly Iraqi sources would probably be exposed, and pay with their lives, and Saddam would have a fresh opportunity to try to hide them again. Plus it'll make it more difficult for US forces to seize them.

As long as the US reassures important international partners that the intelligence will be made public when it’s safe to do so after the invasion, and after US special forces will have seized some actual Iraqi WMD, it may make more sense to wait.
