Fortunately, things settled down by the time I attended that school a few years later. We only had 1 race riot (started when a group of blacks started throwing fist sized rocks during a student assembly) in my senior year.
Sure, there were quite a few major race riots in Watts and other non-southern cities during the 1960s. There were countless non-major riots in the South during the same period.
