E-mails are not private. They never were.

Threatening the President's life in a long venomous spiel in an e-mail will earn one scrutiny.

Clinton's teams regularly escorted hecklers out of forums and held them to the same scrutiny for much less an offense.

It's too bad the internet was not public and developed in Hinckley's and Oswald's day - it could have easily flushed them out. They would have likely been running website shrines to Jodie Foster and Trotsky respectively.

Or perhaps run or appear on a "kook-catch-all" website like Rense.com or Art Bell.

They were just doing their job L. If someone threatened your life, surely you'd want the police to investigate and discourage the threatener.

The Secret Service only follow through on the most credible threats. If you call Bush the Third Antichrist and that you want to kill him and you mention what you would do - you will look like a psychotic, obsessed, fanatic to 99/100ths of the US population and are also violating federal laws.

I'm glad they paid Mr. Moore a visit.

Some folks need a wake-up call as they teeter on the edge of drug-induced or hate-induced insanity.

No "rape" of freedom happened. Only normal, hard-working folks in a thankless job, upholding laws that maintain human decency.
