FYI, foreigners hold 9% of the home mortgages written in the US. Total mortgage indebtedness is $6.5 trillion.
Even if you get your loan from an American company, they turn around and sell most loans on the secondary market, in pools called "mortgage-backed securities". Anybody (with pockets $100s of millions deep) can buy MBSes.
I don't have a breakdown by nationality of foreign buyers. Who has lots of cash needing to be parked somewhere? Oh, gee, I dunno...the Saudi royal family, for one. Kuwaiti royals, for another. The money we spend on foreign oil is a two-edged sword--some of it comes back to America as investment capital; but ownership and control goes overseas.
The foreclosure notices could be written in Arabic.
