Yes, not all gay people are liberal. However, from my own personal experience, living in California and working with and living around a large number of homosexuals, and homosexual communities such as Laguna Beach, CA or Hillcrest in San Diego - I think it is a fair estimation to say that there are about as many conservative homosexuals as there are conservative environmentalists. This means there are a percentage - but they are largely outnumbered by the liberal ones. Anyone who thinks otherwise - probably hasn't lived anywhere near a "gay community."
The "gay community" as a community, really is translated into the gay liberal community. Take the politics any advocacy groups like ACT UP share in common - and you will find almost a universal parallel with the liberal agenda. A gay conservative is about as welcome in the "gay community" as Justice Clarence Thomas at the MTV music awards.
I have a good number of friends who went to work in Hollywood, one's an animator, another is a sound specialist, etc. From my talks with the more politically active of these friends, I realize the gay culture there is an extremely political and liberal manifestation of the "gay community." I would venture to say, in this community conservative homosexuals number no more than 5-7% at best.
It may not be politically correct to label sexual preference with any political persausion - but by large certain associations can be drawn out statistically. This may be a blue/red area anomaly. In the red area there may be a much greater number of politically conservative homosexuals, while in the blue areas the numbers change drastically.
Based upon my experiences in California - my assessment holds true. Here in Arizona the number of public displays of affection by homosexuals have to be near nil - I have yet to see any. It is hard to tell what the politics of any gay community in this region would be. By comparision, in San Diego you could regularly see lesbians and homosexuals kissing, making out, or just holding hands in public - and the communities were hotbeds of liberal protest marches, anti-conservative stances and gay-pride parades.
I would be lying to say that I felt there were anywhere near the number of conservative homosexuals as there are liberal ones, or that liberal politics did not accept or even endorse homosexual behavior when compared to conservative positions (that double entendre was not intentional).
I know, I know - this whole thread was another mistake. Some "Drudge" news topics are better left untouched. my ease in talking about sensitive and controversial issues is just me I guess, I am too "liberal," if I may use that term loosely, for the boards here.
;-)
I know I appear to some here like some bigoted person with an axe to grind against liberals - but really - it's not the case at all. My cousins are very liberal teachers in the California educational system - and we get along fine! My sister-in-law is a bleeding heart liberal who makes Mary Anne, Lindy and Bowser appear like conservatives! Really! We also get along splendidly and have wonderful debates sometimes at family get-togethers. I don't have a mean or persecutive bone in my body. However, I probably speak all too freely about my own views and opinions.
;-)
Best wish to all - and I do mean all,
