We are going to be paying for many years for the habit colonial powers* had of carving up Africa into nations using a map on the table, a pencil, a ruler, and a few stiff drinks, totally ignoring who actually lived where.
The most recent National Geographic had an excellent article on these same lines on Sudan.
*That would be Europe, which has done a hell of a lot more to earn the title "imperialist" than the United States has.
