The oldest dirty political trick in the book is for governments who are strapped for cash to threaten to cut vital services if they don't get the new taxes and spending increases they want. I have seen this from the Federal level all the way down to local politics. When our city hits the budget wall, they don't cut the Fund For Putting Stupid Looking Art In Front Of Every Frigging New Building. They threaten to cut the library staff, or police hiring.

Now Oregon is getting both barrels from a pissed off government that is angry about them voting down a tax increase. And the government is going for the throat.

Like many states (California for example) did during the glut of boom-driven capital gains taxes, Oregon sucked up the new money like the propellant intake of an F-1 turbopump.

To claim they have to cut essential services now is a lie so blatant, one is amazed their tongues don't turn black and fall off on the spot.

I hope the citizens of Oregon hand these bastards their own heads on platters.
