Fortunately, if North Korea attempted to launch a missile attack on the US west coast - they would not have a large supply with which to bombard us.

This means we could likely focus our resources to intercept the missiles that would be launched. Our missile defense shield is continually being updated and improved.

As soon as we would detect a launch that is heading towards the pacific coast - North Korea would be atomic ashes probably a minute or two before it came down.

That's a pretty big deterrent for a sane person*

They know we are building up our shield too - that is why the big gambit now. Their hand is worth less over time. If they expect to get concessions, aid, fuel, etc. - they have to play their hand now.
