An interesting article, to say the least. If true, it amply demonstrates the painfully complicated world of international relations, especially at time of crisis.
While sleeping with the devil doesn't allow for a very peaceful sleep, it's neither something new nor distinctly American. Ask Europeans about bedding down with Satan...they long ago became adept at the vilest expressions of diplomacy, not due to any shortcomings on their part, of course, but because that's where the road of international relations leads.
There's no question that getting on in the world is complicated, often frustrating and painful business...humans are complex, and so are human relations. Don't get me wrong, Lindy...I agree that we as a nation can be more careful about our decisions and actions, but international relations is a dirty, rough-and-tumble business, and we'd be foolish to think it'll ever be otherwise. Any finger of blame that can be pointed at us can equally be pointed at everyone else.
