Aside from being a great Sci-fi writer, I think Orson Scott Card has a pretty good handle on world events. My own views on staging out of Turkey parraleled much of what Card writes in this article:

I believe we would be better off leaving Turkey out of any military offensive. Their Kurdstate-phobias should be instant disqualifiers as occupation force members. A support role across the border would be fine, so long as they stay over there.
