The Arabs were running on the regurgitated knowledge of Greece and Rome.

It was the unique intellectual gift given to the peoples of Europe by the great Ice Ages that allowed for our modern civilization. Without Europe's cold unforgiving climate, the improvisational abilities to adapt ideas and bend nature to our will would not have been as concentrated. Sure the Chinese may have invented many things, they are a product of Eurasia after all, but they were never able to fully implement them do to cultural and social constraints. Only when these ideas filtered westward into Europe were they exploited to their fullest. No other group of people have influenced or shaped the Earth like the Europeans.

It is a proven fact that intelligence and personality are heavily determined by genetics. Like it or not, we are the sum of our parts and our parts are molded and refined by the environment, and Ice Age Europe was the toughest proving ground on the planet.
