Hubris bit us on the rear with Columbia.

There are nightmare scenarios:

1) Saddam might have enough high grade uranium for one crude nuclear exposive device (not even a real weapon). The thing would weigh tons. He and this device would be sitting in a tall building in the middle of Baghdad with his finger poised over a button. He'd wait until the US Marines kicked in the door and then push the button. Going out this way would be exactly his style.

2) He starts shooting Scuds with VX at the Israelis. The Israelis go ape and shoot back a nuke.

3) Just as the US surrounds Baghdad, Saddam's Republican Guard gasses the entire city with VX in a act of mass suicide (an Iraqi version of Waco, Texas)

4) Dream up your own nightmare.....

If Saddam goes out nasty then Bush and Blair's political future go with him. Saddam is the sort of psychopath that would find that acceptable.
